I agree completely, she was great. One of the reasons I love Stallone movies is because most female characters in the movies he chooses to make are not in fact love interests. Even when they aren't badasses, they're never just a sex object or a prize to win for the main character. It always feels like these movies genuinely respect their female characters.

IA 100%. I have so much respect for Stallone because of this and make it a point to watch all of his movies (that he's written/produced) because of it.

Stallone is wonderful in that regard. I wish people would give him more credit for that instead of dismissing him as a dumb dude on steroids who makes silly action movies. At least he makes silly action movies that don't treat women like shit.

Word. I was just watching Demolition Man the other day and I can't get over how awesome Lenina Huxley is. She's super sweet and cheery, but also a massive unapologetic geek (about retro culture) and able to kick lots of butt when necessary. Not to mention the whole scene where she turns him down for sex and he actually respects it and doesn't get mad, just is like "okay, I'm leaving," and she isn't shown as being a bitch for it at all, and they keep on working together just fine with no resentment from either side. (Spoiler: They do end up having a kiss at the end, and it's implied that they're going to have sex later, but it's made clear throughout the movie that he respects her and she's quite enthusiastic about the idea of "acts of fluid exchange" at the end.)I wish more action movies would feature female characters who are characters first and foremost instead of tokens or mainly there for eyecandy.

Demolition Man is awesome. I also love how in Tango & Cash, the girl turns out to be Stallone's character's sister (not his girlfriend), and when she ends up sleeping with the other male lead, it's not at all done in a douchey way. Because SHE is the one who decides to to sleep with that guy and when Stallone's character does the whole overprotective-brother-thing she tells him to fuck off and that he doesn't get to tell her who she should sleep with. And he ends up accepting that his sister is quite capable of making her own choices.

I've never actually seen a Stallone movie, but this thread makes me want to seek them out.

A lot of his movies are actually great. They're often still silly action movies and you either love or hate those, but they're the good kind. Tango & Cash is HILARIOUS, Demolition Man is absolutely wonderful, the early Rambos are totally heartbreaking (and at least the first one is far more intelligent than people give anyone credit for), Rocky is a bit hit or miss, you hate him or you love him. Oh, and both Expendables movies are AMAZING. Bullet to the Head is also super fun.
