she's manic, not schizophrenic
Are you saying the media got it wrong or that her doctors got it wrong? (This is a serious question. I know you said you're not a psychiatrist but I genuinely value the opinions of people who have experience with mental illness. I'm also curious if something came out in the media that I haven't read since I haven't been following the news about her.)

NAYRT

Oh wow, your second paragraph is literally what my whole facebook feed looked like when a childhood friend of mine hit a manic episode. She posted so much and so weird that I had to hide her posts altogether.

FWIW, although she's never been entirely mentally healthy, my friend is Amanda Bynes's age, and her really severe mental health problems came with puberty and was really bad in her teens. She was originally misdiagnosed with schizophrenia, but now they say she has a severe bipolar and once medicated was pretty stable in her early twenties. It's started up again now but I think it's because she started doing illegal drugs again; which made her slip off her meds, etc.

Schizophrenia usually presents between 26 and 32 in women. My sister is Schizophrenic and I've been her guardian since she was diagnosed when she was 28, about a year after she first started showing signs. It can take up to two years to diagnose depending on how it presents.

Schizophrenia develops in the late teens for men (40% by age 19) but not women (only 23% by age 19). It's much later for women.

da

Yeah, symptoms tend to be more severe in men. Some research shows that this may be in part due to estrogen levels. Schizophrenia symptoms often get worse in women during their period because their estrogen levels are low. When estrogen levels are higher, the symptoms are often not as severe. Male and female patients with schizophrenia are often told to take estrogen supplements due to this

It's always scary, regardless of gender, sadly.

I think it's harder to make an assessment like that if you've never even had contact with her, and only know the little (often sensationalist) bits the media has put out (basically, her tweets and that weird thing about the driveway fire, from what I read).
