Fun fact: I stanned for Domino for like 5 years. No idea who that guy is though.

I remember Domino! Even at that tender age I thought to myself: "Damn, what a Mary Sue! This is reading like someone's OC in a crappy fanfic. Huh, that would explain this movie."

[Picture is Team Rocket members Mondo and Domino from the Pokémon anime and the animated movie "Mewtwo Returns", respectively. Mondo is a young man with lightly tanned pale skin, short brown hair and wearing the standard Team Rocket Grunt outfit: white long-sleeved shirt and white pants/trousers with a huge red letter "R" on the chest, dark gloves, undershirt and boots and a belt. Domino is a young woman with lightly tanned pale skin, long blonde hair done up in two curled pigtails and wearing a different version of the Team Rocket uniform: a black T-shirt with a big magenta letter "R", a white skirt, long gloves and white boots reaching to her thighs with magenta bands near the edges. She is also wearing brown belt, a pink and magenta hat and blueish green backpack. She is holding a small gadget while hanging from a rising helicopter during the night.]

I really, really mis this nevermetshipping. Seriously, it used to be semi-popular, especially on Team Rocket fansites. There was fic, art (I really miss the art since I'm a more visual person). But now pretty much all the Team Rocket sites are gone, and all that art along with them. (Yes, I even miss the crappy Geocities/Angelfire/Tripod sites).

Secret because: No one even remembers who these two are.

Postscript: Those who do remember who they are, please don't fucking lecture me about how it wouldn't work and it's totally out of character. I don't care. I still fucking miss it and shipping is supposed to be fun dammit.

Bit of a correction: Mondo never actually appeared in the anime, only in the Team Rocket CD Drama from way waaaaaaaaayyyyyy back. He was basically the one who helped them out when they were trapped or out of food off-screen, at least in the Kanto region. Those who still do remember him still wish he'd show up but after 15 years the chances aren't good. :(

We never got Mondo in the anime, but we got an expy of him in the totally awesome DP episode 122 (Rocket Gang Breakup?!/) named Yusaku. I don't recall his dub name.

They used to be friends with him when he was still a rookie and cheered him up when the training was too rough on him. He loves them and calls them his senpai, just like Mondo did!

Anyway, despite the sad-sounding title, the rest of the episode is just great fun, I recommend it to anyone who loves the trio and their friendship. o/ Also a really great ending if you're a Rocketshipper, particularly in the Japanese version.

I remember them! Though I first discovered Mondo in a fic (Pokemon Rebirth) and thought he was the author's OC for years. Never knew they were a ship though, now I'm curious. Got any recs that are still out there, OP?

Domino! She was my favorite of the (human) Pokemon characters for many years.

Domino is one of my favorite Rockets, and Mondo is cute. I had no idea there was a semi-popular ship for them though.

I remember Domino!! She was kind of badass in that movie when I was a kid. (I really liked that movie because Mewtwo feels)

Never heard of the other guy tho - according to transcriptanon he wasn't even in the anime...out of curiosity, why was the ship so popular (relatively of course - considering they apparently never met)?

I'm guessing it's mostly just because they're a boy and girl who work without partners. All other Rockets have partners ( with the exception of the later-revealed Tatsumi/Tyson and those who don't do field work, like the scientists).

Maybe the huge gap in experience and contrast in personality is appealing too? Mondo's a rookie and very innocent to the point of being naive (he really doesn't seem to get what the gang's about), whereas Domino's very capable and quite menacing, even though she's just as cute and young-looking.

With the popularity of pairing partners ( who are often opposite in personality, even if they're the same sex hello, Bashou and Buson ), I can see how these two might've been a popular ship at some point.
