Book Recs?
It's similar to the TV show Revolution, but a little less over-the-top TV show ridiculous, I guess.
Does anyone else have any other suggestions for similar "Doomsday" books?

Re: Book Recs?
(Anonymous) 2013-07-29 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)Actually, in looking online, it appears that most of the things I really disliked about the book and its sequel (broadly, it has the plot and characterization of a pretty straightforward thriller, to the point that it loses some interest, and is also very uncharacteristic of Barnes' work) were pretty much the fault of the publisher forcing Barnes to do things a certain way very much against his own wishes, and him acquiescing for financial reasons.
So that's comforting for my opinion of Barnes as a writer, although it does make me very sad in terms of the book that could have existed. But I'm not sure where this leaves my recommendation. I think it's still a pretty interesting book with some very, very interesting concepts, so you may still want to read it. There's apparently the possibility of him rewriting the books in line with his original conception, but I wouldn't count on that ever happening.
So, uh, yeah. That's the most qualified recommendation ever. But hopefully it'll help you out somewhat because the topic of the book is definitely what you're looking for.
