Twin Peaks

Is this the second or third Twin Peaks secret we've had lately? What's that about? Also, should I be watching it? My list of old shows I want to watch is getting slim.

I think you should. It's very influential.

Be forewarned: It is very very '80s. Also very very tryhard with the avant garde (or wannabe avant garde) details, i.e., the Red Lodge, etc. Pretty accurate about what it's like to live in a small town in the Pac Northwest otherwise though.

Ahahaha yeah I agree.

It's coming back. I'm serious, it's undergoing a rebirth of interest right now.

Also, you should definitely watch it, because it's historically influential but also because it's really, really good. And weird. And just interesting. It's fantastic and everyone should watch it. And it's fairly short to boot.

I suspect its resurgence in popularity is because of things like Deadly Premonition, which almost comes off as a parody.

I also think, just in general, both the tone/aesthetic and the concerns seem to appeal to a lot of people right now. The retro, but also very weird, and very sincere, tone, and the retro/small town/rural American slice of things as well.

Here's an article on the topic: http://www.spin.com/articles/why-lana-del-rey-cults-and-more-indie-heartachers-lurk-shadows-twin-peaks/

That might also be it. I think there's a shred of 90s retro in it too -- Alan Wake for example is very obviously influenced by both Twin Peaks as well as late 90s Stephen King miniseries on ABC.

Yeah, definitely watch it. It combines some really interesting psychological horror elements.

For bonus fuckery, watch the movie Fire, Walk With Me. David Bowie is in it for like... 30 seconds. :D
