In the future, all cops are paired with a robot partner. Karl Urban is John Kennex, a cop who was injured in the line of duty and woke up with no girlfriend, an artificial leg, a bad attitude, and 5 distinct psychological conditions that are spelled out in the show bible (I am not kidding). He doesn't want a robot partner because of Feelings about his robotic leg, and even goes so far as to fridge his original robot partner. So, the police department pairs him with a "defective" model, Dorian (Michael Ealy). Dorian is a robot with emotions, "made to feel," and also cute as hell.

If that doesn't sound like everything you want in a fandom-friendly show, check this out:
