I think a lot of people really wanted to see some kind of queer representation, since Ylisse is the first setting without any canon queer characters in the entire series. And well, there's a convenient innuendo right there. Ylisse fandom as a whole likes to latch onto oneliners and single jokes anyway. "Twitching sword hand" for Owain, awful puns for Henry, naked Chrom posters for Frederick, all that.
A lot of fanartists are into it, and art helps too. Severa/Lucina is another one I don't get, but again, fanart draws people in.

Severa/Lucina made no sense to me until Future Past 3. Now it does.

Albeit the dynamic that they picked up from their predetermined parents could also be worth exploring.
