What is this? Because the secret makes me want to be into it. . .

Oh, ha ha, that's what I thought it was at first but I didn't recognize all of the characters. Which pairings are they?

[identity profile] galerian-ash.livejournal.com 2013-07-30 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, yeah, I was a bit surprised that someone here didn't recognize them! Anyway, it's Kaworu/Shinji (a pairing that's not only canon, but a really important aspect of the original series), and Asuka/Mari (Mari only appears in one of the newer movies, and AFAIK the pairing isn't canon -- but I haven't been keeping up, so maybe I'm wrong on that).

Oh god. I don't know about the other two but the guys? Definitely.

Holy shit, OP. You just blew my mind because omg that is absolutely right! Asuka always read to me like one of those angry shounen rival types (when simplifying), and I am definitely into Mari/Asuka because I totally imagine silly yaoi tropes going on with them oh damn.
And ofc KawoShin is like a flowery yuri thing. How did I not see this before ♥

Kaworu/Shinji is an extremely popular pairing from what I've heard; try searching for Kawoshin sometime. I agree with you really; I haven't seen NGE recently but I remember them having extremely shippy overtones.

That's an unusual take on them but I see what you mean. Kaworu/Shinji makes me sad though, if "f/f" gets the most attention when it's gender-reversed.

Just more proof of how shallow some folks can be, sadly.

I don't mean the ones who freely admit they prefer m/m, that's legit. I mean the ones who claim to be equal opportunity for both when it's clear it's not the case when some well written femmes are around.

[Picture is Mari, Asuka, Kaworu and Shinji from the anime movie series "Rebuild of Evangelion". Mari is a young woman with pale skin, long purple hair tied back and wearing a blue headband, eyeglasses with red frames and wearing a skin-tight lavender full-body suit with white and dark blue accents. She is smiling and has one hand behind her back and the other adjusting her glasses. Asuka is a young teenager with pale skin, blue eyes, long reddish blonde hair pulled back in a half ponytail held back with a red bow. she is smiling and wearing a red skin-tight full-body suit with dark blue accents. She is crossing her arms below her breasts. Kaworu is a young man with pale skin and gray hair between short and medium-length. He is wearing black pants or trousers and a white shirt with half-sleeves. He is leaning his back against Shinji's and smiling at him. Shinji is a teenager with slightly tanned pale skin, short dark brown hair and wearing black pants or trousers and a white shirt with half-sleeves. He is holding a hand against his opposite shoulder, and looking back at Kaworu sort of apprehensively.]

Mari and Asuka feel like a Boys Love (male/male) pairing to me, while Kaworu and Shinji feel like a yuri (female/female) pairing. I haven't seen anyone else feel this way, but (to me) their interactions just feel like gender-reversed versions of popular ship dynamics.

I can see it.

Shinji and Asuka in particular have always sort of felt like genderswapped versions of more traditional character archetypes, so their relationships having the same sort of reversal vibe isn't surprising.

Evangelion is so fanservicey there's an official genderswapped version of Kaworu.

Anyway, you are so right about these pairings, Asuka and Mari are totally hot-blooded shounen rivals.

Are you talking about Tabris? Because... that's... not...

I don't know, I saw the figure at Book Off and was confused, even more so when the clerk told me who it was supposed to be and that it wasn't some fan thing.
