I originally didn't like Apollo's game because I had trouble getting into the characters, but upon a replay I did after not touching the game for a while I found myself pretty much liking everyone and I think that was the most interesting gameplay of any of their games.

Trucy is cute, but I get a bit tired of the cute young girl/laywer combo. Like they even did it in the Edgeworth game and it just becomes formulaic in addition to wondering wtf these little girls are doing all over crime scenes.

But fandom is always resistant to change, I'll see what I think of the new girl when the game comes out in my country.

A lot of the fandom is weird about change. However, I never got into the whole "who's a better lead/assistant/prosecutor" thing since, like you said, variety is a cool thing. Not to say I don't have favourites, just not preferences over what characters should be around.

I like Trucy, although she really bugged me with that ridiculous kidnapping shenanigan thing she pulled during a trial. It was a short-lived case of butt mad for me ha.

Athena is going to be a playable lawyer though, not strictly an assistant character, and I'm super excited about playing three (or more!?) in GS5. Also, I'm kind of ridiculously excited about having any combination of Nick, Apollo, or Athena as my assistant while playing either of them (assuming they do). I am so ready for this game ♥

Yeah, I got excited too that I would be able to talk to the characters I had been playing/would be playing later. I think it's because you generally don't get to talk to the main character in any of the games. You just hear their thoughts and while that's great, it also means you don't get to see their faces unless they're in court.

I never finished this game, because I found all the characters incredibly annoying with very little to redeem them. It wasn't like the first three games where most of the characters were eccentric, but at least had something lovable about them.

I found Trucy exceptionally grating. I mean, could you shut the hell up about your damn panties for five minutes?

[Picture is Trucy Wright as a child with Mr. Hat from the videogame "Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney". Trucy Wright is a smiling child with pale skin, short light brown hair and wearing a pink magician's cape with a green clasp. Next to her is a wooden puppet wearing a tuxedo and a matching pink cape and hat.]

I'm ambivalent about Phoenix vs. Apollo, but I think Trucy is way cooler than Maya. She helps Apollo directly rather than relying on someone else, she seems more mature despite being younger, and her abilities make more sense in the largely supernatural-free setting. She's why I'm not worrying about Athena--a little change can work out well sometimes.

I wouldn't say that Trucy is necessarily more mature than Maya. Maya has a great deal of inner strength and can befriend almost anyone. Just because she's young at heart doesn't mean she lacks maturity.

I do like Trucy and Apollo Justice in general, and I agree that in her own way she was objectively more competent than Maya was when it came to the lawyering business, but I think she's more static and flatter as a character than Maya was. And I, for one, prefer characters who have room to grow (and do) to characters who don't.

Of course, part of this is likely due to Trucy only being the assistant in one game versus Maya's three, but even taking just the first Ace Attorney game, Maya demonstrated a good deal of inner conflict and depth that Trucy really didn't ( besides when Hobonick briefly mentioned it at the end, but that doesn't really count).

I have to say, though, that both of them are way too plucky for their respective situations.

I agree, OP. I always liked Trucy a little more than Maya and the rest of the Feys.

I have to disagree when it comes to maturity: Maya herself was a lot more mature than it may appear. It takes a lot to be able to put a smile on your face so that your little cousin won't feel guilty over your mother's death.

I'll give you that Trucy was a more competent assistant, but to be honest that's exactly the reason why she didn't really work for me. Apollo is an adult, Apollo is a lawyer, and he needs to get shit (not mystical stuff he obviously wouldn't know anything about, but practical stuff) explained to him by a teen? Meh. I'm not sure if that was a case of Trucy being too smart in relation to Apollo or Apollo being too dumb in relation to Trucy.

(Either way, unless the sequel will manage to patch up the mess AJ is, I'm going to just keep pretending that game was some self-insert fanfic written by a very bored Apollo.)

Any assistant that does NOT get accused of murder is a winner in my book (but there's still time for Trucy, I suppose).

I like both and I can't chooooose! Don't make me chooooooose! I mean, I really loved all the characters. I honestly want to see them all return because I'm selfish.

The thing I want most, though, is for Apollo, Trucy, and Thalassa/Lamiroir to have their family/related story thing acknowledged and possibly explored. I just need everyone to know that they're related and shit, especially Apollo and Trucy. I also would like a reason for Thalassa leaving Apollo behind after she had raised him for a year with her now dead first husband. Because I'm not really sure why she didn't bring him back with her when her husband died. Just, yeah, there's a lot of unanswered stuff here.
