oh my god, I cannot write

And it's pissing me off a little bit. But not enough to sit down and WRITE.

See, I'm five months and about 12,000 words into a smutty fic that that's probably going to top out around 15,000 words. About half of what's left is smut. I've dreamed up the in-between words a dozen times in that place between sleep and awake and fapped to the smut, written and unwritten, more times than I can count...

I just can't sit down and write it. And I don't know why. It's just that every time I try to do so, I come up with a million other things I'd rather do. Even right now, as I'm typing "I want this story to be done and shared with the world!!!" I know I'm totally not going to go write it after hitting "post comment."

Write every day. Even if it's only 100 words on that fic, WRITE ON IT.

Because that's the only way you're going to get it done.

(Says she who is 25K plus into a story that has to be done by the end of August, and expects it's gonna be at least another 25-30K).

Even if it's just TEN words a day, write on it. Seriously, when you feel like this, commit to writing ONE SENTENCE. And some days maybe that's all you'll write, but some days, that one sentence will be a catalyst.

^this. I find trying to get those first words down is important. Sometimes, you won't write more, but hey, it's still more than you had in the first place.

Have you tried going for a long walk and bringing along a notebook and some pens? It could help to clear your head, maybe write something else for a bit. Maybe you just need a break.

Deadlines!! Seriously, I am absolute SHIT at finishing anything (hello half a dozen things sitting on my harddrive) if I don't have a deadline. Whether it's a fic exchange or NaNo or a short story submission that I just did for dreamspinnerpress.com (that I am officially pissing myself in fear about since it's the first thing I've submitted), I just can't seem to finish anything if I don't have an official deadline to work towards.

Maybe you have the same issue? Unfortunately I can't give any sort of advice on getting around that though. :/ Good luck!
