[The Sound of Music]

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-07-31 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a screen-capture from the movie "The Sound of Music". A man is playing the guitar to children in a living room. The man is sitting on a chair while the children listen sitting on the floor. An older woman and a younger woman look on from beyond. The older woman is sitting down on a chair/couch and wearing pink clothes. The other woman is leaning against a wall, wearing a blue dress and has brown hair. The man has short curly dark hair and is wearing dark clothing. They all have rosy pale skin.]

This is the only patriotic song that I like.

The man on the chair is Captain von Trapp and he's singing to his children (yes, he has quite a lot of children). The older woman is his fiancee (who's usually referred to as 'the Baroness'), while the younger is the children's governess, Maria. :)

Thank you! (I've never watched this movie. :V)

You're welcome! You put so much work in on these, and I'm glad I could help a little bit. :D

Please. Go watch it. It's awesome. :)

And I hate musicals, so the fact that I even like it says it's worth at least a view.

It's a pretty sweet song, I agree!

It is a good song.

It's a lovely song, OP. You have good taste.

Chiming along with everyone else here, it's a good song. :)

(...but what about I Still Call Australia Home?)

Agreed, though. Edelweiss is awesome.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-01 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure "I Still Call Australia Home" was written for a QANTAS advert, so it technically doesn't count.

(Don't quote me on this, though.)

Not at all. Qantas used it, but it was around for years before that.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-01 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Edelweiss" was written for an American musical, so why would what the song was written for have anything to do with considering something a good patriotic song?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-01 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
It was written by Peter Allen and not for QANTAS, fyi.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-01 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Why did you have mention 'I Still Call Australia Home'? I cry every time I hear it.

\yes, I am Australian

That's one of my favorite Rogers and Hammerstein songs ever! :) I love the reprise more than the scene pictured though, because of how everyone in the audience sings it when he chokes up, knowing that they're pissing the nazis off by doing so ;)

Beautiful song! It was my mother's favorite.

I love this song. And I'm also not typically a fan of patriotic music. Though a lovely patriotic song that's later sung in resistance to the Nazis is totally fine by me. :)

When my parents were in Austria on a tour, with a tour group so it wasn't like they randomly found this guy, he was hired, their guide got super pissed off because "EDELWEISS IS NOT AUSTRIAN!! IT WAS WRITTEN BY AN AMERICAN FOR AN AMERICAN MOVIE!!!" So the group sang it to him as they parted. (No idea the actual origin of the song, just cool story bro)
