I don't see why you can't tell your friend. My roommate and I started watching the series a couple of months ago. I love Dean and Castiel, together or separate, and can't stand Sam. She loves Sam with the passion of a thousand suns, ships him with almost any girl who comes close to him (And ships J2 in RPF), likes Castiel but is meh towards Dean... and we have still to fight about it. We just agree that we both love the show and agree to disagree on the pairings.

There are sane SPN fans and then there are the others. And I don't just mean basement dweller types; I think something about SPN makes people a little bit more rabid than they normally would be in a fandom. So I can imagine a friendship where OP telling the truth would actually become a sticking point if OP was blunt about her opinion.

It's also a possibility that I just had bad SPN fandom friends.
