One of the people in my fandom often goes "Oh, I love your X/Y fic! You write it so awesomely, unlike most of those OTHER X/Y shippers, who make X so Out of Character and weird and their writing is so unconvincing..." to one of my friends in the fandom. It makes me feel kind of awkward, because I ship X/Y, and she's never said anything like that about my fic. I try not to care about what she thinks, but I kind of feel weird about it.

*shrug* take a step back, look critically over your work and seek to improve your characterization?

You don't actually know that the other writer isn't writing OOC fanservice, and getting fawning reviews because of it.

Well. You and your friend must have different characterization, but which one of you is more in-character isn't determined by a single review. Which one of you is more popular, out of curiosity? Because the review you mentioned is common on popular stories, regardless of actual merit.

Some people like the way one person writes a character/pairing and other people like the way a different person writes the same character/pairing. It's just a matter of preferences, don't let it get you down.

There are some people I respect in my fandoms too who say similar things about pairings I ship. I don't think they've ever read any of my stuff but I always wonder if it would measure up to their expectations. :/

The person who leaves those comments has issues. It's not you, anon. No I don't know you or your fics, but anyone who feels the need to covert-aggressively swipe at people other than this one author? Tacky. Trust me, you don't want their petty approval.
