Honestly, I think it's much more losery that people pay celebrities to have their pictures taken with them, posing like they're friends. Think about it this way: you treated your idol with respect and didn't ask her/him to sell a pretense of friendship.

(Before anyone jumps on me, I know selling that kind of photo is a big source of income for some celebs, or maybe I should say ex-celebs. I still think it's sad and creepy.)

I never paid for a photo with a celebrity. I've paid to get into places to meet people, but not extra for a photo or autograph.

I don't think it's too sad that they pose for pictures, but the whole "pose like friends"? I find that weird/uncomfortable. I was at a concert where there were several bands (no, not Warped Tour) and the band members were willing to take pictures with fans but as soon as they started putting their arms around the person or playing with the person's hair, I stepped out of line. I'm socially awkward and hate being touched, so when I have gotten pictures with celebs and they go to put their arm around me, I have no idea what to do. It's just the standard pose, I know, but whenever someone touches me, I just want to scream.

I think it says more about our culture that we're so enamored with these people that we pay for the pretense of friendship than on the individual person - it's just what happens now.
