Why is this a secret?

i think it's because there is a large portion of fandom that gets mad at anyone who equates sexualizing child characters with pedophilia. or they see it as some sort of "oppression" of their sexual interests. (i'm not even joking).

it's not oppression, but it is dumb to equate someone's interests in fiction with things they must necessarily do irl. tons of people love books, movies, tv shows, and films filled with rape, violence, murder, and so on. that doesn't mean all those people go out and do those things.
