Secret 1

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-02 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is actress Hailee Steinfeld and Asa Butterfield playing Petra Arkanian and Andrew "Ender" Wiggin in the upcoming film "Ender's Game". Petra is a teenager with rosy pale skin and long brown hair pulled into a bun behind her head. Andrew Wiggin is a teenager a bit younger than her with rosy pale skin and dark hair cut short. They are both wearing what looks like military-type dark gray jumpsuits. They are in a dining hall, sitting across each other at a table with other young people and talking together.]

I'm gay, and living in a country where I can be jailed for it.

Ender's Game was one of my favourite childhood books. I loved and related to its message about being compassionate to people/aliens you don't understand because they're different, instead of hating and demonising them. I've been looking forward to watching the movie in the cinema since the time I first read it.

I know about Orson Scott Card's homophobia. It hurts, to put it mildly, but I scroll past and avoid reading where possible, because I don't want the memories tainted. But it's becoming harder to avoid, and I'm getting frustrated at well-meaning (especially straight) people telling me to boycott this movie and judging me for not wanting to do so. I don't have many good things in my life. This movie was supposed to be one of them, and it's becoming harder and harder to think of it with the same delight as when I first heard it was being made.

Just le me enjoy this, okay? I promise I'll make up for it. I doubled the cost of a ticket and donated it to an LGBT health organization*. I'll do more, just give me this one movie.

*not to brag, just to show I'm serious. I'm far from being rich (lol legalised job discrimination), but guilt triumphs monetary concerns.

Secret 2

[Picture is a screen-capture from a comic in a tumblr post, featuring Merlin from the TV show "Merlin" glowing gold but with his head obscured approaching the newborn in real life Prince George in his crib and saying "What a silly name... George. Anyone with eyes could see... you're... Arthur", and then the baby grabs and holds onto the fingers from Merlin's outstretched hand, insinuating baby George is the reincarnation of King Arthur from the TV series.]

I'm starting to feel like I'm the only person in the Merlin fandom who finds the 'Prince George as Arthur' trend creepy, and that maybe I'm the one at fault. [displeased face emoticon]

Secret 3 (warning for sex shaming)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-02 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the Leto brothers from the musical group "Thirty Seconds To Mars". They're both men with light skin and dark hair, one of them with short hair and the other with long hair pulled in a ponytail. The short-haired one has a slight beard and mustache. They're both wearing black leather jackets and sitting together at a party, it seems. The long-haired brother has his arms slung over the shoulders of the short-haired one.]

I would not touch either Leto with a 10 foot pole. both are walking Sexually Transmitted Diseases and will never be faithful to any woman on earth. Man whores both of them. Gross.

Secret 4

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-02 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is white text over a blank blue background.]

Once I participated in a fest. I ended up hating the fic I wrote, and the whole thing made me so stressed out I ended up blocking the fest from my LJ. I only commented on the fic that I got as a present. Now, I'm feeling kind of stupid for overreacting this much. My fandom's small and dying, and I feel -- I don't know -- a responsibility to support it because I read a lot in it.

Secret 5

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-02 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the musician "Enya". She is a woman with pale skin and short dark hair.]

I honestly like her music. It's extremely relaxing, to the point where it's the only thing that can calm me down when I'm furious.

(Secret because: Everyone I know is all "laughing out loud, Enya is for New Age fruitcakes")

(Bonus secret: I want to waltz with someone to "Caribbean Blue".)

Secret 6

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-02 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Albert Wesker from the videogame series "Resident Evil". He is a man with lightly tanned skin and short blond hair slicked back. He has glowing red eyes and is wearing a dark shirt with a stiff collar and a shiny black jacket over that. He is baring his teeth in anger at the viewer.]

I can look past the stupid tacked-on backstory. I can look past the complete and utter character-bastardization that he underwent in Resident Evil 5. But I can't look past how goddamn ugly his character model was in Resident Evil 5.

Secret 7

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-02 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the memetic horror picture/creepypasta picture "Jeff the Killer" (which is a horrifying humanoid face or mask with white skin, red lips and a humongous red-lipped smile and sunken but wide open eyes staring unnervingly at the viewer), but someone pasted on huge violet anime-style eyes over the original eyes.]

I hate how any even remotely scary creepypasta gets turned into kawaii bullshit anime boys. What the hell was wrong with them before? Why does EVERYTHING even a teeny bit scary HAVE to be made into Out Of Character prettyboys? What's even the point of using the characters if you're just going to change them so drastically?

I know it shouldn't bother me, but it's near impossible to search the creepypasta tag without coming across that sort of stuff. All I want is scary stories, is that too much to ask?

Sorry I'm so angry sounding, I'm just stressed out a bit.

Secret 8

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-02 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Kise Yayoi or Cure Peace as a child, from the anime "Smile Pretty Cure!" In the picture, she is a child with long blonde hair pulled into a high ponytail, with golden eyes, forelocks/bangs framing her face and eyes and wearing an elaborate long-sleeved white and yellow dress, white and yellow shoes, and a white headdress with a feather.]

Okay, sexualize underage characters all you want, but I'm still allowed to think you're a disgusting creepy! I can't stand any discussion of certain "kids-shows-popular-with-adults" because the topic of which one you'd bone always comes up.

Secret 9

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-02 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is an emblem/logo of the musical group "Avenged Sevenfold", featuring a skull with bat wings, two guns, and a ribbon saying "Your Future is Set Forever".]

I am still not sure if their name is ironic or if they are a Christian metal band.

Secret 10

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-02 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a page from the manga "Kuroko no Basket". The protagonist, Tetsuya Kuroku is staring with awe at Taiga Kagami as he dunks a basketball through the basket during a basketball match. Tetsuya is thinking "He met with his fated shadow. The true light. The manga doesn't show it, but Tetsuya is a young man with short light blue hair, blue eyes and pale skin and youthful looks. Taiga is a young man with short dark red hair, red eyes and lightly tanned pale skin. Both are wearing basketball uniforms.]

When this happened I laughed. Listening to you conflate their basketball partnership with a romantic one and shit on any other relationship as "less significant" for months... only for the character himself to turn around and say that the other dude was the real deal!

I enjoyed watching you backtrack. He's only talking about basketball, right?

Secret 11

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-02 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is black text over a blank background with the texture and color of slightly wrinkled yellowed paper.]

I can't fucking stand fic reviewers who describe how much the canonical work the fic is derived from sucks before praising the fic as being ~so much better~ than the canon.

A simple "your fic is so good I like it even though I don't even like this show" is fine, but what on earth would possess someone to write a paragraph dissing a fictional work the person they're supposedly complimenting is probably a huge fan of? It's so insulting to the fic writer's intent (unless the writer explicitly said they dislike the work they're writing fic for -- which is rare), it's all about the reviewer needing to spout their opinions everywhere, even when it's not wanted, and not at all genuinely complimenting the fic writer.

Secret because: it's considered rude to argue with someone who compliments your fic, even if their compliment is insulting and contrary to your intent.

Secret 12

[Picture is the android Data from the TV show "Star Trek: The Next Generation" smoking a pipe of sorts. Data is a pale android with short black hair and wearing a dark yellow and black uniform. He is sitting and resting against a purple velvet chair.]

I've had fandom desires before, but the weirdest by far has got to be my desire to travel way forward in time and check out the fandom for major works of fiction that were produced around the last few decades. I'm so damn curious to see what survives and how peoples' view of it has changed over time.

[Picture is the "Kawaii Titan" from the anime "Shingeki no Kyojin" or "Attack on Titan". It is a humanoid giant creature with dark black hair reaching its chin, lightly tanned skin and disproportionaly huge anime style eyes. It is leaning around a wall corner to look down at something.]

As much as I like this series, I don't understand why it has such a ... fandomy fandom. I mean, jeez, they are constantly fighting and escaping being eaten, I doubt they have such free time for whatever goes on in people's headcanons, and most of the potential shipping is seriously disturbed obsessive behaviour.

[Picture is light pink text over a blank black background.]

I hate myself because the one time I met my idol, who inspired me to try directing, I was too shy to get a picture with him instead of just an autograph.

I know that's probably a dumb reason, but I can't help it that I'm a pathetic loser, and that incident shows it perfectly to me.

I'll probably never meet him again, and I'll live with this regret forever.

Too Big

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-02 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a black and white photograph of two shirtless men hugging each other. One of them has dark skin and short hair with very small curls in it. The other man has lighter skin and short dark hair. The way they're hugging obscures both their faces from the viewer.]

I'm HAPPY when slash makes male fans uncomfortable!

Why? Because I think the ones who object the most are the same ones who do things to make women feel unwelcome in fandom (rape jokes, "tits or get the fuck out", etc.) and are the most entitled and expect everything to pander to them. I think it's hilarious how offended they get when they see something that objectifies men the same way they objectify women.

I feel a little bad fetishizing (male) homosexuality, but not much. In my opinion most online slash stuff (at least the stuff I see) is WAY more respectful to gay men than the majority of comics and video games are to women anyhow.
