On the flip side, I've had conversations with several Ender's Game fans who've told me that I'm doing art & literature wrong simply because I have an aversion to OSC's works and therefore avoid them. According to these fans, Death of the Author means that my visceral response isn't actually a valid reason to avoid reading the book or watching the film. Never mind the fact that there are literally thousands of books and hundreds of movies that I don't have an aversion to that I'd rather read or watch instead; apparently, they think it's better for me to make myself unhappy by forcing myself to consume media I dislike. ...Yeah, I don't think so.

Bullshit. You have an aversion because (the fact that he's a horrible human being aside) he's a hack who made it good with one book and has been coasting off that (and rewriting the same story, look at the sequels) ever since. I like Ender's Game but everything about the man and his works just baffles and infuriates me.
