Honestly, I think they're responding more to how people are talking about Card [Look at all the 'DO IT TO SPITE HIM!' type crap people are saying], and the way people - albeit unintentionally - shaming the OP for paying to see this movie.

Also, no one is saying you shouldn't boycott if that's what you want to do. The OC never said you shouldn't. But by the same token, there's nothing saying someone obligated to *not* spend money on his work and spend it on LGTB/LGTB positive writers if they enjoy his work enough to be willing to pay for it.

And well...Speaking as lesbian who wants to see this movie [and lives in an area where job [and housing/etc] discrimination are legal]? You get a lot of shit, even hate, for admitting to that where I live. However, I've yet to hear of someplace/situation where the reverse is true. So please, can you not act like someone is doing that to you?

I was specifically responding to "love not hate" anon who appears to be framing the boycott as an act of hate that's unlikely to change his opinion.

Well yes, I do get a fair bit of shit in larger segments of SF&F fandom for choosing to boycott and patronize feminist and LGBT-friendly SF&F authors (the latter because I just don't have the time to avoid specialization). I've been called hateful (in this thread) and anti-american for supporting boycotts, at least once by a SF&F author.

And that's open to interpretation. I didn't read it that way at all, particularly given all the 'STICK IT TO THE [TOTES CLOSESTED] CARD!'

And I've been physically threatened for wanting to see it.

Threatening you is a bad thing, and those doing it are assholes.
