That's the same logic a lot of people who play and design video games use to 'assume' every player is male.

No, it's not. The world at large is more or less split equally between malen and women. Fandom secrets is mostly female. those are not assumptions. those are facts.

According to the research, female gamers occupy at least 40% of the market to to men's 60%*. "Mostly" is not a very accurate term here as it implies a much more extreme divide.
