I mean, I get your complaint with the "movement", but the reason it's focusing on making unattractive people feel attractive is because looks are everything. It sucks, but it's true. Shifting the focus to "Looks mean nothing, beauty is on the inside" won't go over so well in a society focused on how one looks.

The first thing people with sight typically notice is how someone looks and if they are attractive or not. Changing the way we perceive certain "flaws" like being overweight or having acne or stretch marks or whatever is probably more likely to succeed than the "don't judge a book by its cover" approach seeing as we are wired TO judge books by their covers. I doubt that will change any time soon.
