This. At first I was at the level of just not caring and I'd roll my eyes or change the channel, but then after a week with no end in sight it just really started to piss me off that it was dominating what were supposed to be serious newscasts. If I lived in Britain, it might make sense. But here in the US we cut our ties to the royals about 250 years ago and tons of people here now have connections to countries other than Britain. So this sudden obsessive focus on British royalty seems really weird and antiquated; like they're trying to force us to find this interesting somehow, which just increased the irritation level with it, at least for me.

TBH even British people find it weird that the US is so interested. The reporters we had were going around talking to US tourists asking them why they cared so much that they wanted to be here as the baby was born. In the UK, I understand the hype because you know, future monarch and all, but worldwide the amount of coverage seems crazy. Seeing reporters camped outside a hospital window for 4 weeks was a bit silly.
