I've seen several times that describing someone as "transgendered" is bad and you should say "transgender" instead. But in some contexts "transgender" just sounds wrong grammatically and "transgendered" sounds more correct. Why is adding the -ed to the end such an awful thing?

I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I believe it's because "transgendered" makes it sound like this is something that happened to the person rather than just the way they happen to be.
