... it really kind of bothers me that so many of the comments on this secret involve headscratching and trying to figure it out. I'm not sure I agree with the OP, mainly because I'm damn pessimistic about the number of people who have engaged in domestic violence and, but that their point isn't immediately clear to everyone says something about the ability of white male BSOs to bury scandal.

okay I get you, nonnie, but the thing is, a lot of us get our Fandom News from Fandom!Secrets. There are just too many fandoms to keep up with, these days, and sites like ONTD and stuff are just...no.

TL;DR: It wasn't buried, we're just really sheltered here? IDEK. :P

I agree with your sentiment. In this case, though, the particular story here isn't widely known by people who aren't active in the fandom. Quite a few of us here hadn't heard the story until someone explained.

You are correct. However, it seems that even a whiff of scandal, whether substantiated or not, is basically "tried & convicted" for some people.

Don't know anything about the guy or whether or not he's the type, but most incidences of domestic violence never see the inside of a courtroom because of the nature of the crime. It's perpetrated by someone that the victim loves and assumes loves them, so they usually don't press charges and since they are living, the state doesn't do it for them and/or can't make a case without the victim's testimony.

But that doesn't mean we can assume that anyone who is accused of it is guilty of it

(I mean, I don't think there's any real good response that we have available to us for this kind of thing, in general)

It wasn't buried, it just happened before he was well-known. And it was thrown out because his accuser went back to him and then they split again without her making more accusations. It just isn't something most people have heard about unless they're specifically Fassbender fans.

Um. I have no idea who this Fassbender guy is, frankly, and googling him doesn't help as i've never seen any of his movies.
