Re: IT HAS COLLAPSED. THE 12TH DOCTOR IS.....

Keep hoping because they're going to replace him eventually and a lot of people who work on the show and some who work at BBC say he's going to get replaced between 8a and 8b.

Phil Collinson has basically begged to be taken on in Moffat's place since they made him step down from Corrie but they've said no and are supposedly still looking for a replacement.

Well, at least they've learned their lesson with not taking on soap opera writers, then.

Do you mean between the first and second episodes when you say "between 8a and 8b"? If so, that is excellent news!

I think they mean between the first half of the season and the season, like how seasons 6 and 7 were split and aired in two.

But even if it was the midpoint of season 8 vs the second episode, that'd still be amazing news. (Please don't give me false hope, anon.)

Yes, I meant midpoint of the eighth series. Supposedly it's because it's better for the show if they keep the exec producer on during a major cast change and then once the new cast (in this case it's just the lead actor) is established with the audience and settled into the job, then change the exec producer.

I hope it isn't false hope! It could be but there are people connected with the show talking about it as well as some of the suits at BBC, so it's a bit more likely than the average rumour.

Like othellia said, I meant between the first and second half of the eighth series.

The issue isn't that he's a soap writer because they have a great histry of soap writers working very well on Doctor Who. It's an issue of how Collinson runs shows and the storylines he chooses to pursue. When the ratings for Corrie got really bad and he was ordered to change direction with the show so it would be more like it always had been, he refused and publicly stated that the most important thing in any show he works on is to introduce as many homosexual characters as possible and do away with the heterosexual characters. For a show with existing characters, that doesn't work well. It would work better on Doctor Who than Corrie since it's the nature of the show to replace all the characters regularly, but it's not something the BBC is likely to allow to happen with Doctor Who since they're already struggling with native ratings and have lost a fair bit of the international distribution market in the last two years.

struggling with native ratings
Huh?

Re: IT HAS COLLAPSED. THE 12TH DOCTOR IS.....

Meaning the ratings in the UK, which are the only ones that count for BBC-produced shows. Ratings from overseas markets count towards the marketability of the show and that all falls under BBC Worldwide, but they don't count towards the production of it. So a show could be very popular all over the world except the UK and they'd cancel it because it's the people watching it in the UK that pay for the production of it.

The ratings for BBC productions are compiled from first and second transmission/airing as well as views on the BBC iPlayer within a certain time (I forget exactly what the timeframe is but I think it's the first 24 hours).

SA

I forgot to say that the (UK) ratings for Doctor Who have been falling. They've dropped more than 50% since Moffat became the exec producer. They went from over 14 million to about 6.5 million.

SA again because it's the middle of the night and I'm stuck at work and want to be asleep.

The ratings have dropped more than 100%, not 50%. I started to say the ratings were less than 50% of what they were and then changed tack to how far they'd dropped. I need sleep.

I'm still up, too, but not at work yet--few hours to go but I can't get to sleep argh--thanks for the additional (hope-giving) info, and I wish for you that your nightshift is uneventful and/or undisturbing, nonnie!

...I hated third watch the few times the temp agency sent me out on it. Gave me the creeping horrors.
