Wow...you are fucking dense

You only have an outside view. Yeah that sucks.

But you can't see how fucking insensitive you are silencing someone who's a part of that group that Autism Speaks preys on. The fact that you only refer to autistic people as a burden and add"oh and they have no life because of their disability as an afterthought" that tells me all you can care about is the people around them.

Try being in the body of an autistic person who struggles to communicate with people and get their feelings across and then have some group speaking for them and treating them only as a burden.

(also what bothered me, personally, is the fact that one woman said shit about killing her kid WHILE THAT KID WAS IN THE ROOM . You don't say that shit in earshot of your kid. At least leave the kid out of the room. Is verbal abuse okay suddenly because they're JUST autistic and since the parents lives are so hard?)

Yes , raising a person with disabilities is difficult.

What about people with physical disabilities, should we just let parents talk about what big burdens they are and spread campaigns that push that "Disabled people are burdens so they need to be fixed'?

Maybe the OP wouldn't be making a fuss about Autism Speaks if it actually acted like it gave a damn about their feelings and opinions. Maybe if it listened to the functional ones.

Also real nice of you to use your horror stories as emotional manipulation to try and make a person feel bad for having an opinion about people representing them.

Just...shut up. Please.

I'm not saying "no cure" or "don't complain about your situation if you have an autistic kid"

But making a PSA where the only point is parents talking about how awful it is to have an autistic kid. No message of hope, nothing positive just "have an autistic kid? WELL THAT SUCKS", When you're entire ad campaign is just telling people how HORRIBLE autistics are...you're not helping.

It's not that much to ask to want people to listen to the people with the disorder. Maybe idk spread awareness that it's a way the brain works. Coming up with solutions for the time being to work with them, and actually advocate thinking of the autistic as a person rather than "an overgrown drooling baby" or "a burden". Maybe come up with things like sponsoring a program to have more functional autistics working and trying to help them.

Most definitely have support groups for the parents and allow them to vent in that context.

I'm just saying Autism Speaks could do a lot more if it focused on actually helping everyone, rather than spending so much money telling people how bad the problem is for non functional autistics.

Their approach is the problem.

I don't have a problem with parents venting, but the venting shouldn't be used as something to show other people as if it's any kind of "education" about the situation.

Autism Speak's entire angle is "Autism sucks and Autistic people are burdens. Cure them so we don't have to deal with them" . There's nothing wrong with finding that offensive. Please don't attack a person who has more involvement than you in the issue for having an opinion.

Non-functioning autistics ARE burdens. There is no positive to caring for an adult baby for the rest of your life, and complaining that they didn't sugar coat the issue to help you feel good is petty on your part. You don't have to deal with a non-function adult, or change their diapers, or deal with constant tantrums. You don't have to skip going out, or living your life, because your adult baby needs constant care. Sugar-coating a serious problem is not a good solution, period.

Still the OP was stating her fucking opinion and feelings and SHE explained it quite thorughly. YOU continued to attack her for it.

The OP actually has compassion for the people WITH the disorder while all you care about is the people around them. You're sickening
