And, it's a secret about it being someone's first fandom! Actually YGO was technically my first fandom - it wasn't the first thing I was a fan of, but it was the first one with which I got involved in fandom online. I started watching the anime when I was having a pretty rough time my freshman year of college, and watched the whole thing all the way through. I came up with headcanons and ships and had ~~feels~~ for it and everything, and it was way more than I'd ever experienced with a show (none of which I'd ever been dedicated to watching completely) or a book or game or anything else. I became emotionally invested in it, and it was the springboard to experiencing fandom on that level.
I still have a lot of love for it. I play the game, but it's kind of different and a separate thing from the show. I don't care if it's a ~crappy kids' anime~ with a shitty dub, IT'S MY FAVORITE. <3
I'm surprised, given how fandom itself is made up of people liking things that most others would call weird, that you've been given so much shit for this, and it makes me sad. I wish fandom weren't so elitist - but I guess that's inevitable, being a huge group of human beings with human nature. Don't be ashamed of what you like, OP, and fuck the haters. :)
