Re: Game fandoms not what they used to be?

Kingdom Hearts comes to mind. But yeah, the most popular kinds of games these days are a lot different from FFVII and don't seem made to generate that type of fandom. They just don't have that same universality, and like you said, gamers are really segmented. But then I kind of feel that way about a lot of fandom groups these days. I used to be confident that there would always be something just as crazy and widespread to replace the old stuff, but the brand new fandoms seem to get more and more lukewarm and fleeting compared to Ye Olde Fandoms every year. It might be me getting older, or the way fans interact with media evolving into something different.
