What I find sad is that in my pre-supernatural fandoms, one could write page-long analysis on how A and B were really soul-mates/fucking/destined to be together, and they were taken as simple ship manifestos, and weren't proof that the writer was a 'rabid fan'.

I agree that many spn are rabid and act horribly, but why the hell is writing meta now considered also a show of craziness?

+1
lets not confuse people merrily writing meta in their own fandom spaces with the kind of shippers who harass other people. You can hate on an ubiquitous ship all you want, but hate on the first kind of fan and you're just being a dick.
It's pretty trendy to be that kind of dick to SPN fans around here, unfortunately.

THIS THIS THIS. I don't see how writing meta and celebrating your ship- because, duh, YOU SHIP IT - and taking a rational approach to what canon has given you can in any way be maligned. But you're right, SPN fans are widely hated throughout fandom, but especially on f!s. Which is not to say there's not crazies. But if now even the meta writers are getting a bad wrap...

don't get me wrong, i don't mean analyses are wrong in general. i was referring to the fans who use such analyses as "proof" that their ship is canon so that they can shame people who don't agree with them by calling them blind or delusional idiots.

It's not, as long as the meta writer doesn't accuse others of being crazy (or homophobic) if they disagree with the meta.
