Why? He doesn't deserve it. When has he ever treated anyone on the show kindly without an ulterior motive?

Oh absolutely, I'm sure going around healing babies and trying to help the woman whose eyes Naomi burnt out all played into some diabolical master plan. Or pulling Sam out of Hell, that was a stroke of Machiavellian genius. Or telling Dean how to summon an archangel to oppose Lilith when he knew it could (and did) get him into deep shit with his superiors. Or trying to protect Meg and taking care of her wounds. Or running all over the countryside healing people as Emmanuel. Or buying the guys time to try to rescue Adam by banishing himself at Van Nuys. Or taking on Sam's madness and getting himself committed. Or comforting the damn pig before he slaughtered it and worrying about the unhappy racing dogs. Or shaking the hand of the boy who drank demon blood instead of denouncing him as an abomination. Or getting tangled up in a horrifically complicated, dangerous plan and a freaking war rather than dragging a friend back into a hard life he was trying to retire from. Or trying to hug his friend when he saw him whole again.

As for ulterior motives, sure he's got some. So does everybody else on the damn show--hate, guilt, atonement, revenge, the desire to find answers or be a hero or be their own person or just to sleep at night. They've all got plenty of flaws, too, and all the principle characters can be some mean-ass sons of bitches when they want to be. So are Sam, Dean and Bobby also undeserving of kindness?
