I don't really get why these are things that you should be afraid to say out loud. I think that it's awesome and creative! Then again, I'm pretty open about what I ship, so I guess my friends irl/fandom expect it from me.

I know, right? It's starting to make me feel weird because I am a huge obscure pairings fan. Should I not be saying anything, now, because I don't ship the big pairings?

Exactly! I don't see why shipping obscure pairings is something to be ashamed of at all.
