She looks like a bee in that shirt.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-07 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
But a very cute bee.

I read this in Paolo's (from Princess Diaries) voice.

Make all the boy bees go *bzzz*

[Picture is actress Karen Gillan and actor Matt Smith or possibly their characters, Amy Pond and The Doctor from the TV show "Doctor Who". Karen Gillan is a woman with pale skin and red hair reaching past her shoulders wearing a three-quarters-sleeved blouse with horizontal black and yellow stripes. Matt Smith is a man with pale skin and short brown hair combed to the side and sort of fluffed out. He is wearing a dark coat and has one hand inside its pocket. The two are holding each other with one arm, and Matt Smith is smiling at Karen Gillan.]

I really will be devastated if they don't end up together.

This is an extremely adorable picture and they both look gorgeous but I don't really care about their romantic lives. (Though I wish them happiness with whoever.)

ugh

i'm just so annoyed with nearly every doctor who fan who ships them (and by extension amy/eleven). can't a woman and a man just be really great friends without wanting to have sex? they seem to have a good friendship (with arthur too). why must everyone make every (celebrity) relationship romantic and/or sexual?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-08 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
why must everyone make every (celebrity) relationship romantic and/or sexual?

Because it's the nature of the beast. As a rule. I realize this isn't true of every single person on the planet but enough that I think it's just a part of human nature. I was shipping before I knew what shipping was. I remember being a wee little one watching The Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman and being vaguely disappointed that Lee Majors was married to someone other than Lindsay Wagner. Before I ever got into fandom, I remember being horribly disappointed when David Ducovny married Tea Leoni because I was convinced (in a non-tinhat way) that he and GA were 'involved'.

Turns out I probably wasn't so wrong about that one.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-08 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
If it's human nature, it's certainly not universal, or even majority. In fact, it might be just the tiny minority of humans attracted to shipping and anoraking on the internet.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-08 11:08 am (UTC)(link)
What does anoraking mean?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-08 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It comes from trainspotters who commonly wear anoraks (because this is a cold, wet hobby) and take down notes about trains. I think it's from England, so if you hadn't heard it, that's probably why.

RL certainly has a lot of people trying to play matchmaker and going "OMG, you would make such a cute couple!" etc. There's also a lot of tabloid reporting on celebrity relationships. Most people may not get very invested in it, particularly when it's about people they don't personally know, but I think the idea of whether two individuals might/should be together is something that at least crosses the mind of a lot of folks at one point or another.
