Wait what?

Being serious now... why learn Japanese if you can't go talk to people in japan?

Your agency has a problem with you being social?

:)))

Oh, I'll definitely be talking to people for sure! I can talk to people around me if I have questions of course, but I can't form any relationships or try to, because of the sex trafficking there. It's a safety thing.

... WHAT?!

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2013-08-07 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
you lost me. Maybe I missed something but... why would having a consensual relationship be problematic because of sex trafficking?

LOL well, you never know who wants to be the one to steal you away! It's more of a thing they advise against more than anything. I of course make my own choices down there.

Okay

I mean, I'm not saying I'm sure your true love is there or anything but, you know, if you use the usual common sense rules (don't go with strangers to places you don't know at all, etc) I'm pretty sure you'd be fine. Most of the time people wanting sex ends in sex in my experience, rather then being sex traffick'd.

This is very true! I'm not very social outside of business or the internet anyways though. In fact, I'm awkward as hell :/ I hate it, so I avoid it!

I.... I've been to Japan once and it didn't really strike me as a rapey kidnappy kind of place, well, not more than the West anyhow. Learn the language basics, keep common sense, and you'll be fine. Maybe the agency has another agenda in trying to keep you from being distracted.

Japan has a lot of problems with sexual harassment, but yeah, I've never heard of sex trafficking being a big problem there.

Well, there actually IS a sex trafficking problem that yakuza are involved with, but that's super underground stuff and generally involves women from poorer countries coming over with promises of visas. It OP is a white westerner from a fairly well off country she's probably not gonna have a problem. Japan is one of the safest countries in the world, after all. It's just that there are yakuza, who really do the nasty stuff, but I lived in Tokyo for years and from stories I've heard from other gaijin, they are notoriously scared to get involved with us. lol

This happens in the West too. Thai women trapped in brothels in Sydney for instance. White slavery otoh is almost non-existent.

To be fair, though, that's not really true - white sex slavery happens a lot in Eastern Europe and Russia. though yeah, as far as worldwide racial percentages, I have no idea, but I'd guess Hispanic or southeast Asian women... but yeah. I guess no one really knows for sure.

I think it's mostly the modeling thing. Too many agencies send their girls to people they've never dealt with before in any way, and end up accidentally sending them to a scam. It's truly awful, but my agency is picky as god damn hell and will only send me to people that are known personally. My dad jumped at the chance to ask every question ever, and even made sure they'd tell us all about the Canadian embassy and everything in case something were to happen to our passports.

Oh! And I forgot to thank you for this comment :) it really helped ease things with me. Just the mere thought of being on my own out there for 3 months scares the crap out of me, but I'm definitely excited for sure :))
