It makes me sad fandom makes people think this.

Right? How dare someone get interested in another actor's works because they enjoyed them in a different work, how dare they. It's so silly. If watching a movie gets you interested in a TV show that the same actor is in, then great! You shouldn't feel judged because of it.

[Picture is the cast from the TV show "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia". They are four men and a woman all wearing yellow clothing and smiling while posing together. One of the men is holding a gray cat who is also wearing yellow boots. The men all have short dark hair, except for a bald man with glasses in front, and the woman has long blonde hair. They all have light skin.]

I feel like a jerk for not being interested in 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' before I saw Charlie Day in 'Pacific Rim'. Now I'm loving It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia more than I thought I would (and loving the entire cast, not just Charlie), and I feel like a fake fan who only became interested after seeing a cute guy. I hate telling people that the reason I started watching is because Charlie Day was so adorable in 'Pacific Rim'.

You know who wouldn't mind that you are giving the IASIP a chance because of Pacific Rim? The guys who created the show. I bet they are ecstatic by all the new fan buzz for the show that the movie has created for them. It's a small, cult show. So the more, the merrier.

that is the best way to think about it.

Like what you like. Leave the shame for when you actually do something wrong. If anyone gives you shit tell them they are a buttmunch.

Seriously, it's okay to enjoy yourself.

People getting into stuff because somebody they liked is in it is perfectly valid! It's only bad if you become one of those freaks that fast forwards through any non-charlie scene or the like. You're fine!

There's nothing wrong with coming late to a fandom. I didn't watch The Wire until last year and now I am very happy being one of those people who talk about how they don't have TVs but love The Wire.

Watch it, enjoy it, and to hell with everyone else.

Charlie Day's character is adorable on the show sometimes, though. Especially when he's around his IRL wife's character, the Waitress.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-09 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
That's when Charlie's character is the worst.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-09 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
In line with yesterday's secret, it should be fine if he's not your "spirit animal."

(Anonymous) 2013-08-09 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Alternatively, Charlie Day is the only reason I bothered to see Pacific Rim, so it's a two-way street, I think.

But don't worry, OP, Charlie was always a favorite on the Sunny cast to begin with (or at least, he'd been my favorite), so I don't blame you at all! Some people are probably gonna be jerks about all the new fans but who cares, as long as you enjoy it.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-09 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't worry about it OP, if you love the show then you love the show.

Honestly following actors around is not always easy, because if you liked them in one project it doesn't mean you'll like them in another, especially if you are going with two different things like Pacific Rim and IASIP. But you gave it a chance and you liked it, so now you have a new show to love in addition to having more with your crush. In my mind that's awesome.

Y'know, I only ever bought the Firefly box set because I thought Alan Tudyk was teh sex in A Knight's Tale. I think I'm still allowed to call myself a browncoat.

If someone is disdainful of how you got into the thing you're into, they're really doing Fandom (and Human) wrong.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-09 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I think IASIP has more fans than a fandom. Meaning people will watch it regularly and enjoy it, but the people who go online to talk about it and insist there's only one way to be a real fan are probably pretty small.

Whatever its dumb. If anyone gives you grief just be like "I will eat your babies bitch."
