I'm the anon just below you, and I at least partially agree with your second paragraph. I'm not sure whether it's "mutilation" or not (that's for the penis-owner in question to decide), but it's a medically-unnecessary cosmetic body modification procedure performed on a child far too young to consent, and that doesn't seem right to me. (To say nothing of the fact that a major reason it became so popular in the US was the belief that it would reduce sexual sensitivity and thus discourage masturbation, which is all kinds of fucked up.)

I use mutilate because by definition it is: "To disfigure by damaging irreparably" or "Mutilation or maiming is an act of physical injury that degrades the appearance or function of any living body."

I am not arguing about any of your comment, because it IS a horribly unnecessary procedure. It also causes the death of ~100 boys annually in the US.

I'm with the previous anon...whether a particular instance of circumcision constitutes disfigurement or degrades the appearance or function is something only the owner of the organ in question is qualified to decide. Which does not negate the point that it's unnecessary and can go badly wrong, of course.
