I acknowledge the Joe Wright version does some things that aren't in the spirit of the novel

Like what? The early morning walk in relative underwear? (Honestly curious, in case that sounds snarky)

They made Wright add that for the US version - it's not in the British version, and I was terribly surprised when I read about people with this complaint.

Oh, really? I thought they only added the extra smooching ending (which I felt was tacked on and I kinda don't like every time I watch it lol).

youre right. thats all they added. but i think the peroblem some have with joe wright is changing the story leaving out characters. apparently they were going to leave out mary too. thankfully they didnt our it would have gotten worse reviews.
i love this version. and i agree that his DARCY is way better more true to character. though i like both. i felt this version more believable

I think the tone of it is just a little more serious than the book, and the social satire feels more secondary to the romance. (Not that it's the only P&P adaptation to do that, I'm sure.)
