I am worried about my kitty. He usually yowls at my door in the morning when he hears my alarm go off, but he didn't thins morning. And, in fact, he stayed lying on the dining room floor until I came in there and talked to him. Well, sometimes he has gotten into something and isn't hungry, so I didn't think too much of it, especially as he ate when I put out his breakfast.

Well, I was worried, so I came home for lunch. He didn't greet me at the door (his brother did, though), and he was slow walking, but he ended up going with me and eating something. I was worried enough that when I went back to work I asked if I could leave early to take him to the vet, but the earliest appointment the vet had was for 8am tomorrow, so I didn't end up doing that.

Then I came home after work about an hour ago, and he not only didn't greet me at the door, but he didn't come out when I shook food and I had to go looking for him. He was under a chair in the dining room. And he didn't eat when I put out food. And he usually goes on the couch with me, but instead he is on one of the kitty perches in the dining room.

I had a kitty die of a urinary tract blockage, so I'm paranoid that this is the case with this kitty. But he isn't yowling in pain or anything. He's just lethargic and not eating. I have the vet appointment in under 12 hours, but now I'm wondering if I should take him to the emergency 24-hour vet. The problem is that taking him there would be expensive, and I am pretty poor. And it's not like I don't have a vet appointment soon, so if I am over-reacting, I would feel stupid and I can't afford to waste the money. But I would be so upset if I don't take him and it ends up being serious.

I don't know what to do and I'm worried and upset, so I had to vent.

I know how you feel. I had to deal with my sick kitty earlier this year and it's very stressful. I would advise waiting until the appt. tomorrow unless it seems that he's getting worse in the next few hours.

Don't worry, anon. My kitty had the exact same problem, and she was just constipated--quick flush and soft foods for a while, and she was good as new. So, it can be something pretty simple. :)

In my uneducated cat-owning opinion, it sounds like it's only been a day since this odd behavior started, and he's eaten recently and, I assume, has used the litterbox? So if it's anything so dire that twelve more hours is too long to wait, I doubt the ER vet would be able to help much even if you went right now. So perhaps save your money for any long-term treatment the regular vet might prescribe. Good luck!
