It is a bi weekly podcast. The narrator is Cecil who has an NPR style radio show where he discusses what is going on in the town of Night Vale. Night Vale is weird. There are weird events, people, and places. There are recurring characters most prominently Carlos, a scientist from outside of town.

I'm getting an Alan Wake vibe from this. Anyone know if that's even slightly accurate?

I have never played, I am sorry I can't help. :( Wait, is that the one with the guy and...the wheelchair?

Er, I don't think so? I don't remember a wheelchair anywhere...

It's about a writer named Alan Wake who vacations to an odd little town called Bright Falls with his wife. He's having writers block and his wife thought it might be helpful ~to get away~, so of course his unfinished book starts coming to life and the town goes batshit and the darkness tries to murder him.

And there's a local radio show that you can listen to at moments for town updates. Appropriate music is also played and it's very atmospheric because usually when you find a radio it's right after you've killed and/or ran your ass from a hoard of terrifying shadow people.

There are also Twilight Zone type mini-episodes to watch, so those are interesting...

But the whole "weird events, people, and places" thing sounded familiar.

Huh. That does sound sort of familiar! Even has a radio station with town updates!

... The guy and the wheelchair. Would you mean "Cry of Fear" by any chance? Because I can see the main character now as someone accidentally walking around town on Street Cleaning Day in Nightvale XD

Just jumping in and say that not really. I'd compare it more to Courage the Cowardly Dog, except that the weird things are a normal ocurrence in everyone's daily life in a humoristic way.

Like (a bit of spoilers) when a chick was about to shower and then a interdimensional hole appeared in her bathroom, and her biggest concern was how the hell the reporters got there so quickly since she had locked all her doors and windows, and all she wanted was to go back to showering. Stuff like that.

Ah, so I guess there's no overarching story really and more like each episode is kinda self-contained? I loved courage and it's wacky sense of humor but ngl, I was kind of hoping this had a horror element to it. It sounds pretty intriguing and amusing anyway though.

Some people think it has a horror element... and it does, in a way. It's just not creepy.

Hmm, I see...

It kind of does? I think so anyway. I've seen people saying the only connected plotline is the romance but I disagree. I think the plot is the town itself (which is also a character in its own right), and each episode we learn a little more about what's going on there and how it works, and you get to see the same events happening through the eyes of different characters. For instance you could link up every mention Cecil makes of the mayor, and have her story, but that's just one part of the whole.

And horror is a pretty big element, yeah.

You make is sound incredibly compelling. Not often do you see events through different characters eyes and it sounds like a common occurrence here. The town sounds pretty mysterious and weird too so that's always a plus. Thank you for taking the time to explain it for me.

I might give it a shot. It sounds better than my original impression of it.

Well it's kind of like you're seeing stuff through their eyes, as reported by Cecil. It's a little different (and I think this is what makes it so hard to explain to people) because he's sort of playing all the characters at once, but still playing his character. (I don't wanna spoil anything but you do get to hear other voices sometimes too.)
