/highfive on A Story About You! That is my favorite as well. Definately the creepiest for me. If nothing else because Cecil knows so much about what is going on in town (he is like Night Vale's Heimdall).

And the government is hilarious. Sheriff's Secret Police and their Abandoned Mine Shaft is the best.

Yeah, the idea of Cecil having all that knowledge of what's going on is fascinating to me. Like, he thinks of himself as a journalist, and the town seems to respect him as such, but he doesn't seem to be the one investigating things so the knowledge must just come to him somehow. I like my Cecil totally average looking but with secret powers even he doesn't 100% recognize he has.

I just always die at how EXASPERATED the Mayor always seems. Probably just when she's talking to Cecil, but come on, imagine that job. And the Sheriff's Secret Police is the best, because you come in the show and it's like they're going to be this evil, powerful presence that no one can escape, but in the end they're just like "JUST LET US HAVE A WIN THIS TIME!!!" Like of all the things you're in danger of in Night Vale, the Sheriff's Secret Police is so low down on the list and they genuinely do seem to try and protect people? In their own way they're almost benevolent, if still kinda fascist.

It's just such a beautiful quote! Even outside of the context of Night Vale. It's slightly creepy but so earnest. I could picture Cecil thinking that about Carlos, y'know?

It could just be that Night Vale gives it to him. I have read some head canons that Night Vale considers Cecil to be "the Voice of Night Vale" and tends to protect him.

I loved during Street Cleaning Day (I think) where the Mayor and council leave town instead of dealing with stuff. I can't say I would be different. And the things they make illegal is hilarious.

Yeah, I like "the Voice of Night Vale" theory. They are big on ceremonies and titles like that, it seems logical.

See, at the end of the episode, for once there weren’t bodies. No one had gone missing. Everyone was utterly fine. We, the listeners, perceived absolutely no evidence of the usual sort of danger (or any sort) actually coming from the street cleaners.

Which makes me think that they’re actually… just street cleaners. Every day perfectly normal street cleaning crew and equipment and trucks and whatnot.

The weirdness comes from the population of Night Vale, every single member of which reacts to the street cleaners much as a pet or small child sometimes reacts to a vacuum cleaner.

You’re welcome for that mental image.

And yeah I think that's when all the elected officials just peaced out for their totes for sure pre-planned vacation with no known end date.

That is a really cool theory. It reminds me of the Silent Hill theory that it isn't Silent Hill, but the characters that are are messed up.
