different anon, and I agree, but there is still a big difference between Dumbledore's past and Snape's past, because Dumbledore honestly did think in a very fucked up way that he was doing good for the wizarding world, until he realized the truth of it and how messed up his views were. He changed his opinions and did everything in his power to change perceptions of muggleborns and muggles wihtin in the wizarding world, going 10x farther than most people would to change their ways. He denied all power other than headmastership because he knew it would get to his head.

Snape, on the other hand, truly did believe muggles were inferior. It wasn't about helping the wizarding world, it was about hurting muggles. Muggleborns got lumped in. He never had a change of heart about his ways, he simply regretted that Lily was specifically targetted along with Harry (and he never apparently cared before when she was a target for being muggleborn, so it seems more like its his guilt of being involved with her death more than her death itself that changed him). I mean you could argue he did end up changing his ways a little, but he was still a cruel person.

What Snape's stance on blood prejudice at the time of his death was is unknown. He scolds Phineas for saying "mudblood," but it's hard to say whether that's because it reminds him of the worst mistake of his life or because he truly came to see how awful that slur is. In other words, it's hard to say whether he ever truly moved on from "Lily is special, the rest of you suck" or not.

Dumbledore went out of his way to make up for his mistake and he tried to help everyone he ever came across, but I wouldn't hesitate to compare his original plan to Voldemort's - he was going to be the mastermind of Wizard supremacy, not just one of the minions.

Btw, all wizards think Muggles are inferior. The distinction here is that some limit themselves to manipulating their memories and others consider them expendable.

It's not unknown, though. White Petunia was mean to him and he had every reason to dislike her, his reasoning for her being below him was that she was a Muggle. He said this twice in the memories. Then he got to school and just happened to align himself with the people who were discriminating against muggleborns and muggles. The only muggleborn he didn't call a "mudblood" was Lily... until he did. Either way, whether he truly believed muggleborns were inferior or not, he acted like it and discriminated against them so it's not any better. :/

I agree that it wasn't far off, which is why Grindelwald = precursor to Voldemort. But Dumbledore and Snape's motives were different. That doesn't help in a real world scenario, but when it comes to characters, it does make a difference.

I completely agree that most wizards see themselves as superior, but for most this is arrogance. With Snape it was genocidal. That's still a humongous difference.
