Same to the first part, not same to the second..

I'm happy you got to see them too, anon!

The Monkees are in their 70's? Wow. Tork still looks good.

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-08-10 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
More or less. Tork's 71, Nesmith is 70, and Dolenz is 68 (close enough, I figured).

And yes, Tork's always been astonishingly well preserved. There's photos and video from the '80s revival where he's in his mid-40s and barely looks over 35. Alas, his voice has not aged as well, although it's still pretty good. The reverse is true for Nesmith and Dolenz, at least at the show I saw - they look their age, but then they open their mouths and forty years vanishes.

Re: OP

IIRC, Peter Tork had an op for throat cancer, so that might be why his voice isn't as good as it was.

But yeah, he's always looked younger than he was. He needs to bottle and sell whatever he does to look younger.

I'm assuming you've found the fandom that exists for that particular group of men? I was surprised by how much fic and fanart there is when I stumbled upon it a couple years ago.

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-08-11 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
I found some art on DA (a lot of it is pretty good, honestly) and several LiveJournal groups, all but one of which seems to be abandoned. Any suggestions for more?

Different anon

I would suggest Tumblr. There's a thriving Monkees fandom there complete with fanart, fic, rare photos, and great commentary. And if you're looking for RPF, there's plenty of that as well. I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered how many people there actively post about them! :) Highly recommend you check it out.

I had no idea they were touring; that's awesome! Every time we have a Monkees secret I say I'm going to listen to their music again then forget...

At the very least I'm going to be singing Daydream Believer to myself for the rest of the day, so thanks for that!

It just makes me sad that they're touring without Davy.

That spot!

(Anonymous) 2013-08-10 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm too distracted by that spot on the secret to read it. My eye just focuses on it, thinking it's something on my screen.

You, too? I brushed at it twice before I realized.

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-08-11 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry about that! The black dot is in the original photo, I don't know what it is.

It's not my photo, either. None of mine from the show came out usable, so I searched around for photos other people had taken of the tour. And now I feel bad for not crediting, because I can't remember what the source for the photo was.

I've been watching these guys literally since the 60's, and I've never thought the second part of your secret.

Not without various people trying to convince me over the decades, though.

[Picture is the musical group "The Monkees" on a recent presentation on-stage. They are three older men with light skin. One of them has graying hair, is wearing a black T-shirt, a white jacket and black pants, the other is wearing a black hat, a black shirt and pants and a gray suit jacket and the last one has short dark or brown hair, is wearing eye-glasses and a shiny brown long-sleeved shirt. They are standing up and soaking up the public's praise.]

I just saw three of my childhood heroes live in concert for the first time. I never saw the appeal of Real Person Fic before. Now I'm shipping three seventy-year-olds with each other.

so that's (left to right) Mickey. Mike and Peter?

(If so ... I second the "Damn, Tork looks fiiiine" sentiment.)

(Anonymous) 2013-08-10 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Close. Mike, Micky, Peter.

NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I got to see them last night, it was so amazing.

They really are adorable on stage with each other, I don't blame you!

True. They really look like they are having a lot of fun - between Micky's poncho and Mike's Moog sympathizer it looked at times like they were on the verge of cracking up on stage.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-11 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
This was me when I saw Roger Waters a couple of years ago and David Gilmour came out on stage. Suddenly Pink Floyd RPF made all kinds of sense to me.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-11 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
I thought those were The Irish Rovers until I read the thread.
