I don't care for the rest of them, but I liked Lila. it's kind of dumb, but I really connected with her once it was revealed that her family was actually very poor. I found it relatable and I liked that she was able to maintain a positive outlook even though her homelife was hard

Yeah Lila wasn't so annoying after that. But she was a foil to Helga and I can see why some people didn't like her because she got in the way of their ship; at least I assume that's why most of the fans hated her.

I hated her because of the whole mess that was her and Arnold's crush on her

She was a cool character I just wish she hadn't been Arnold's love interest

also around that time the tone of the series changed a lot, it wasn't Arnold's cool weird childhood fantasies but this weird growing up period and also Arnold was a less fallible guy all-round??? He got kinda Gary Stuish and wasn't the pov character as much, less relatable

It's like I didn't know the guy anymore

so, yeah, to me Lila was a symptom, not a cause

I disliked Lila at the time, but rewatching the show as an adult I think she's really interesting. Arnold actually comes off the worst in that little love triangle - Lila keeps telling him no, and he refuses to hear it, and because like you said he's Mr. Perfect by the end of the series, the fact that he won't listen to her isn't problematized at all. :/
