Inspired by secret #5, what is the fic that you can't help loving even though it's OOC (or at least perceived that way)? Personally, I can enjoy an OOC fic to an extent. Then I'll come across one that makes me cringe and I have to hit that X.

Anime's biggest macho prude becomes the most outlandish girly nymphomaniac. I can't help but love it, goofy squick and date rape and all, just because the writing is so energetic and the situations are so beyond the absurd you cannot take awful, awful, implications seriously.

It has more hits than words and more comments than correctness, but goddamn if I didn't read every word and love it anyway.

Most things that make me laugh and are competently written get a pass. It has to be both, though. This deancas coffeeshop AU is a recent favourite.

I love me some Severitus, and while some of them were really clever and in-character, many of them were pure dreck. There's one I still love, however shitty and OOC it is, that I refuse to even cop to in an anon comment. Oh, father/son fic, why must I be so easy for you?

Yeah, that or evil Hermione. I'm a sucker for an evil Hermione fic. There was one, now pulled by the author, which was 15 chapters of Hermione continually turning Ron into a catgirl or French maid, and it was fucking awesome.

I just can't enjoy OOCness at all. As soon as I get to "Character A does this", and it isn't what A would normally do, under any circumstances, I just walk.

I can take OOC a lot easier than I can phonetic accent. I'll sit and read an engaging OOC fic, just telling myself it is an OC in a shared verse who happens to share the same name. As soon as we get to the scrambled words that authors think is the same as an accent then it is time to bail and bail hard.

Same. It doesn't matter how far I am in a fic, either--80,000 words in and Solid Snake is talking in a babydoll voice and throwing a tantrum? I'm out.

Partially Kissed Hero by Perfect Lionheart.

It starts with Evil Dumbledore and Mastermind Harry and it just grows more absurd and off the rails as it keeps going.

The best part is that I'm not sure how much is tongue-in-cheek and how much is earnest effort at a serious story, considering that this is the same person who wrote/writes Chuunin Exam Day.

It's mentioned in the thread for secret 5, but to me DILF (http://archiveofourown.org/works/487739) is so AU as to be pretty OOC, but it's so well written I love it anyway and basically read it as original fic.

There's this one FF7 fic where Sephiroth has long-term/chronic mako poisoning and even though it plays really loose with both continuity and characterization I keep coming back to it because the way it handles the disability stuff just hits the right notes for me.

There's this Sentinel fic where Blair is invited to go on a talk show with his mother to talk about how great his alternative childhood as the son of hippie was, and during it Naomi is super insensitive and Blair admits that he had an awful childhood and was sexually abused by one of Naomi's boyfriends and that Jim is the best thing that ever happened to him and his real family. With Jim in the audience. All broadcast on National Television. It's truly, awfully OOC in all respect, but I love it and can't get enough of it because that kind of public confession pushes my buttons hard :/

there was this one fic in the harry potter fandom that was a percy/oliver retelling of cinderella. i loved the hell out of it when i first started reading fanfiction in 2006, but if i re-read it now i'd probably hate it.
