On the other side, I think people don't always know how to do concrit, either. I am pretty good at accepting criticism of my work (fannish or otherwise), but the rare criticism I've received has been along the lines of "sooooo OOC." And, you know, that's fine, except I'd like to know *why* the commenter felt that way, and that kind of thing doesn't ever come up. :(

Yeah - good comments (whether positive or negative) are an art, and I wish more people made an effort to explain what they thought was IC and what they thought was OOC? I guess we're more likely to get that kind of detailed feedback from friends than from randoms, but especially given how many people really CARE about the characters they're reading about, I wish people felt better about expressing their opinions of fics in detail. There used to be a completely AMAZING commenter in Metal Gear fandom who managed to contribute so much and start so many great threads even while rarely posting any fanwork herself. She has been my commentspiration ever since.

(I also think characters are overrated by fandom - storytelling involves other important elements too! But that is by the by.)
