First up, that's not true, I've benefited from some great concrit over the years, even the subjective stuff because it's interesting to see how different other people's points of view can be from mine. Secondly, 'one-sided monologue' is how I'd characterize the absence of concrit. Concrit is a dialogue we have with fic. It makes for a better atmosphere and more interesting conversation in fic fandoms. Any social hurdles to it like asking permission before speaking up tend to make fandoms worse IMO. The best way I've seen the issue dealt with is the few comms that encourage writers to say as much if they don't want to receive concrit - conversation in those comms tends to be good.

I don't know if it's just because I'm older and have been in fandom for a long time, but I just don't dig the idea of being part of a culture where the author broadcasts their fic and everyone else has to either applaud or keep quiet and then go bitch about it in private. That doesn't make sense to me, as fandom is a peer movement. It ends up with secrets like this; people backbitching about unassailable BNF celebulikes because they're discouraged from saying anything less than 100% positive about their work in public.
