That's what I thought too.

I know a fan who was really good at offering back pats and playing nice because her husband was bringing the money home and she had a lot of time to herself.
Of course it turned out she's a narcissistic douche who likes to have her court of minions but will gladly backstab them if they're in her way to anything she wants. So it doesn't really contradict OP's impression...

Still. As you say, even if that BNF is every bit as evil as OP suspects, that sounds like OP has way too much time at their hands to want to bring her down, and that's unhealthy in itself.
