wow. glad i'm not the only person who loved their friendship and didn't care much for the ship war in this fandom. i've been friend-shipping coop/audrey since 1990.

I sort of shipped them but what makes me angry isn't that they didn't end up together, it's the way they ended up, period. That was depressing.

More like, the way the whole show ended up. So many of my favorite characters were butchered for the sake of inane comedy. Don't even get me started on the new characters. >:(

Good for you, OP.

I'm still butthurt over it.

I agree. That said, I wouldn't have minded if they had met up five or ten years down the road and then something happened between the two of them.

I hate it when people blame(d) Lara Flynn Boyle for breaking up the possibility of Cooper and Audrey, and then dismiss(ed) Kyle Maclachlan's concerns that it would be out of character for Cooper to get involved with a young high school student as just capitulating to LFB's jealousy. Because....it totally would be not in line with Cooper's straight-arrow nature to, as a grown-ass man and Lawful Good FBI man, get involved with a vulnerable 18-year-old. So good for him for speaking up.

They were super hot together (and apart), but seriously y'all, this was a ship better left to fantasy. Not unlike Sherlock Holmes and Joan Watson, but that's OT

Not just an 18-year-old, but an 18-year-old high school student with daddy issues. I'm still creeped out at how many fans think Cooper should have had sex with Audrey the night she broke down in tears while naked in his bed. She's having a crisis, and people wanted Cooper to bone her? Eerrghh.

I know Annie wasn't much older than Audrey, but a 30-something year old dating someone who's been out of school for two or more years seems a lot less creepier than a 30-something year old dating a girl who's still at school.

i hate how people blame LFB because the hate comes off as misogynistic assholery. people seem to forgive McLachlan for his part in the decision, but still spew hate and vitriol in LFB's direction for "ruining their show" or whatever.

nevermind the fact that most of s2 had new writers anyway, and the plot took such a dramatic spiral downwards, so an Audrey and Cooper relationship probably would have sucked like everything else. it really pisses me off that people seem to think that relationship would have saved the show, even though the networks were fucking it around and the storylines had gone to shit.

[Picture is a black and white photograph of Audrey Horne and Dale Cooper from the TV show "Twin Peaks". Audrey has light olive skin and short wavy hair almost reaching her chin. She is leaning on her hands next to Dale's shoulder. Dale has light skin and short dark hair neatly gelled back. He is wearing a dark suit and tie with a white shirt.]

I'm glad Cooper and Audrey didn't end up together. I found the possibility of a relationship starting between them to be creepy, unsavory and inappropriate, especially considering Audrey's age. I loved their friendship, though, and truly believe Audrey needed a friend more than she needed a lover.

Secret because: It's been more than twenty years since the show ended, and most of the fandom is still angry these two didn't end up together.

Yeah count me in as not being able to get over the age gap, especially since she was still very much a schoolgirl when they met.

If people want to ship it that's one thing, but I'm glad it never happened in show because I would have been horrified. It would have been too OOC for Coop.

When the show was on, I wanted them to get together, but now that I'm an adult, the age/power gap just squicks me too much.

Not gonna lie, I'm a Cooper/Audrey shipper. At the same time, I can respect and love a ship that doesn't happen and even like that it doesn't happen. What bothered the hell out of me is that both their 'actual' love interests seemed very "tacked on" and all the chemistry (what little there was) seemed incredibly forced.

Though, admittedly, that could be the bitterness.

IIRC Annie and John Justice where specifically created to put a wedge between Cooper and Audrey, because Kyle Maclachlan didn't think it was realistic for Cooper to date a girl still in high school.
Sadly, the writers were too far gone down the shit-hole by then, and so Annie and John Justice ended up with some pretty lousy characterization.

I can totally understand the "Okay, imbalance of power, Cooper wouldn't go there." It was specifically that the whole "She's too young for him." thing kept being brought up, even though Audrey was 18 and very mature for her age (iirc... gdi I need to rewatch this series.) On the other hand, they kept driving in how naive and innocent Annie was and how this was an attractive thing and it's like "Wait a second, you just said..."

(Anonymous) 2013-08-17 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, making Annie a naiive 20 year old was an odd choice tbh. Especially since it was the young age that Kyle Maclachlan seemed to have an issue with in regards to Audrey. Not to mention Annie looked a good 10 years younger than her sister, and acted even younger than Audrey did. I think they were trying to make her a female-Cooper, but it just didn't work.

Maybe if they'd made her 30-something, I would have been able to palate her character more.
