I don't think they're pairing the kid with anyone. I think they just want the kid to wind up in a relationship with a girl when she grows up.

She is wearing dark clothing and holding a short sword (a katana mock-up?) in a pose. There is a curved sword sheath hanging from her belt. She is standing on a cobblestone floor somewhere outdoors, looking up at something in confusion with streetlights illuminating her. (It might be a park or someone's nice yard?)]

I don't tend to care much about animated movies beyond the canon story. But I came out of this wanting to see her in five years find herself completely smitten by an unbearably cute girl.
