All right, so...here's the thing that struck me upon reading through that: this was not an isolated incident. Necrophilia is a known phenomenon among mallards. Holy shit!

I found ducks cute and amusing, but after a while of watching them at lunch break when I was working near an artificial lake, I witnessed several occurences of what I can only call gang rape of a female mallard by a bunch of males. She tried to escape, they were after her, and they worked in team to corner her somewhere to do their deeds.
Creepy.

Oh, male mallards are revolting little rapists. Other duck species aren't anything like as aggressive - which, as they can interbreed, sadly means that there are a lot of species, such as wood-ducks, which are becoming endangered because they're basically being out-bred...
