I'm pretty sure they were saying that because they didn't know and it was a surprise to them, not that they think adopted kids are less than other kids.

Lucille treated all of her kids shitty, not just Lindsay.

My first line was specifically in reference to the secret. The fact that Lindsay's adoption threw the whole show off for the OP makes it seems like s/he thinks that adoption removes a person from family dynamics. But, as you said, Lucille treated all of her kids shitty; her personality is the deciding factor, not the origin of her daughter.

That is a good point about my second line, and I think I was just upset and so seeing things through a filter. I've also now considered that OP may have felt the writers were trying to justify and explain Lucille's behavior through the adoption revelation, so I may have just read this wrong altogether.

I've just gotten so much shit over my life for being adopted that it's easy to get my hackles up. I love my adoptive parents, and they love me, and I've never had any reason to doubt that. But so many people seem to think that that's impossible, and they'e had no qualms about telling me so.

I'm sorry you had to deal with people being shitty. If that was the secret maker's intention, that's their damage. Often as a child I wished I was adopted so maybe someone would love me. I'm glad you have awesome parents.

But, yeah, it's completely hard to see anything in Lucille's relationships with her children as anything resembling a healthy family relationship.

I appreciate your sympathy, and I'm also sorry that you found yourself wishing to be adopted. It doesn't sound like your parents were very good to you, and that's sad. I hope that you've since found people who love you, anon. Everyone should be loved by someone.

I don't think the OP means that adopted children are any less of children. It's just that a lot of emphasis was put on Lindsay and Michael being twins, and to find out in the third season that that was not only a lie, but that Linday wasn't even introduced into their family until well into Michael's childhood....it just doesn't mesh with the storylines that were already built around these characters. (Not to mention...wouldn't G.O.B remember this?? How old was he when Lindsay was introduced as Michael's "twin"??)

And to top it off, the whole point of the reveal seemed to be to make a one-off joke about Michael not dating older women (and Lindsay offering to marry him) which is all sorts of squicky because, up until this point, they've considered each other twins.

To be fair, when Michael asked GOB if he remembered growing up with another sister, GOB didn't even remember Lindsay until prompted, so he's probably not the most reliable source...
