It's not a delusion, it's a belief. Perhaps people experience delusions that may cause/harden said belief. But the belief itself is at worst just plain wrong. Calling it a 'delusion' implies insanity and is needlessly dismissive, not only of people who believe in God or Gods, but also to people who do, in fact, experience delusions and suffer because of it.

That doesn't imply insanity, and it does apply to a large amount of religious beliefs. I don't see how that's a wrong use of the word.
